KINABUKASAN PROJECTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
A. GENERAL ASSEMBLIES, MEETINGS, VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION, TRAININGS Volunteer Orientation and Meeting Founding members met for the first time at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center to discuss initial plans and brainstorm projects. They were introduced to the organization’s officers and advisers. Teambuilding games were also played. Volunteer Training for Medical Mission It is a policy of the organization that before any major event, members are requested to attend a training program in connection with said event. For its first medical mission, the volunteers were briefed and oriented on different activities and responsibilities they will be handling during the event. Interaction with doctors and medical practitioners is important for familiarization. General Assembly As part of its recruitment program, KINABUKASAN gathered student leaders from different schools in Bulacan. Student leaders were oriented on the organization’s activities. Invited speakers talked about volunteerism and a situationer on the social conditions of the province. PYSEASCO Head Elizabeth Alonzo graced the event. General Assembly New volunteers were oriented on KINABUKASAN’s values and principles. Active members shared their experiences and learnings from the past year’s activities. Teambuilding games and bonding activities were held to foster stronger ties among members.
B. FORMATION EVENTS Volunteer Formation Activity The activity was designed to specifically deepen the commitment of volunteers in his/her participation in the organization in an effort to enrich the volunteers’ spiritual and personal lives and inculcate zeal and a sense of purpose to better achieve the vision, mission and goals of the organization. Speakers from the University Center Foundation and the Jesuits Volunteers Philippines talked about spirituality, commitment and volunteerism. Members were requested to tag along another potential volunteer to share the experience of KINABUKASAN. Teambuilding and Volunteer Formation As an integral part of KINABUKASAN’s formation of its volunteer base, a teambuilding program was conducted in Tagaytay. It was a memorable experience wherein members dined and played together in the spirit of fun, cooperation and team spirit. Members reaffirmed their orientation toward selfless service and volunteerism.
C. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES Feeding Program for Children To enrich the lives of its youth volunteers through hands-on experience and interaction with kids, a feeding program was staged in the community of Maribatik. Fifty (50) kids, ages 3 to 12, were treated to simple spaghetti, played games and given prizes and gifts by their ates and kuyas. The afternoon was also filled with spiritual nourishment as the kids were told bible stories and were made to act out some scenes from the stories. Medical and Dental Mission Staging its first major project, KINABUKASAN hosted a medical and dental mission in Dampol, Plaridel. Free medical check-up, circumcision for young boys, tooth extraction and free medicines were given to almost 420 residents of Dampol and nearby barangays. Funds used for the event were raised entirely through solicitation and donations of generous sponsors and patrons. Medical Mission The organization staged a medical mission in Sabitan wherein free medical and pediatrics consultation, free eye check up and free medicines were given to around 350 residents. Pagtulong sa Mahirap na Nag-aaral (PAMANA) Raffle and Fundraising Project As fundraising project for its PAMANA Scholarship Program, KINABUKASAN members sold raffle tickets and were able to raise PhP245,000.00. The money was earmarked for its support of selected scholars. Jail Outreach As part of its Christmas outreach, KINABUKASAN members spent a day with youth in conflict with the law housed in the Bulacan Provincial Jail. Members interacted with the detained minors with a simple program and gift-giving to celebrate the Christmas season. Children’s Day To prepare young pupils of the island barrio of Pamarawan for the new school year, KINABUKASAN volunteers treated them to an afternoon of fun activities and games. Basic school supplies and new school bags were given to 70 elementary kids. Catechetical instruction was also conducted, teaching the children the value of prayer through interaction and play. Gawad Kalinga Build Having in mind the poor situation of the homeless, KINABUKASAN has linked with the Couples for Christ and the Provincial Government to conduct the well-known Gawad Kalinga Build. For a day, the volunteers experience how to work under the direct heat of the sun in order to build a secure and comfortable shelter for one of the homeless families in the said village. It was a long day of hardwork but definitely an experience graced with joy and fulfillment. Christmas Outreach Spreading the Christmas joy to needy kids of far-flung Tukod II, KINABUKASAN volunteers spent an afternoon of games and gift-giving with 100 children aged 3 to 8. Interacting, singing, dancing and playing sure did wonders for both the kids and the volunteers. The kids gladly took home small gifts and goody bags for their families, as the volunteers took home a more valuable gift of being able to share and give. PAgtulong sa MAhirap na NAg-aaral (PAMANA) Scholarship Program PAMANA, the KINABUKASAN Scholarship Program, aims to provide educational opportunities to deserving students of the highly marginalized sector of the society who cannot afford the rising cost of education. To date, the organization has three (3) scholars receiving educational assistance. They are: 1) Luisito M. Sy, first year High School; 2) Amiel Zandro Cruz, B.A. Philosophy at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary; and 3) Melanie Baylon, with a degree on Education at the University of Regina Carmeli - San Rafael. KINABUKASAN Library Construction is ongoing for a library and learning resource center in Tanglaw Pag-asa, a rehabilitation center for youth in conflict with the law. Rummage Sale (Parts I & II) KINABUKASAN members’ donations of old clothes, used toys, books and assorted knick-knacks are sold at very low prices. Not only did the organization raise funds for its school bag project, it likewise offered affordable but serviceable goods to low- and middle-income consumers. The members also learned about customer relations on a hands-on basis. Sponsor-A-Smile Fundraising Project Simultaneous with the rummage sales, KINABUKASAN launched the Sponsor-A-Smile FundProject, the proceeds of which were used to buy school bags, notebooks, pencils, crayons and erasers for schoolchildren of Barangays Sto. Rosario (Hagonoy), Calero (Malolos) and Parada (Sta. Maria). School Supplies Outreach (Part I) A hundred kids from Barangay Sto. Rosario in Hagonoy, Bulacan were the happy recipients of bags and school supplies in the first of three school bag outreach activities for the 2008 school year. They also enjoyed a morning of story-telling sessions of tales meant to impart valuable lessons of honesty, unselfishness, obedience and diligence. KINABUKASAN also shared food donated by generous friends and patrons. School Supplies Outreach (Part II) Part II of the School Supplies Outreach found KINABUKASAN members in Barangay Calero in Malolos City. Again, the children were asked to listen to lesson-filled stories that would teach them the values of discipline, cleanliness, obedience and prayerfulness. Snacks and prizes from donors were also given. At the end of the program, a hundred children were presented with the bags and school supplies that would help them appreciate the gift of education and inspire them to be better pupils this school year. School Supplies Outreach (Part III) The last part of the School Supplies Outreach this year occurred in Parada in Sta. Maria, Bulacan. Similarly, after story-telling and processing of lessons, the children and their parents enjoyed a simple fare of doughnuts, sandwiches and juice drinks. The children were thereafter given the bags and supplies to brighten their school days.
